Chapter 6 The Flutie Factor

This chapter talks about how applications at Boston College soared after Doug Fluties hail-mary happened to beat the heavily favored University of Miami. Schools admissions call what happened here the Flutie Factor. This is where a big sports play happens or big upset happens and applications to the school jump. This chapter then goes onto emphasize a point that has already been made where many kids apply to schools based on what they know about the athletics and not the academics. The University of Buffalo jumped to Division  1 athletics hoping that having a huge sports culture would help the enrollment problems that they were having. The president of Buffalo wanted the school to jump from the MAC, to the Big East, and then eventually end up in the powerhouse Big Ten. As we all should know this has not happened yet and may never happen due to Buffalo's terrible football team and basketball team.
