Chapter 12 Cheating

The chapter starts off by talking about how big of a problem cheating is and how students are more likely to cheat if the teacher just shows he or she doesn't care. The chapter explains how small universities with less lecture classes have less cheating going on because the kids are there to learn and not cheat themselves out of a good education unlike at giant universities with many lecture courses where a lot of cheating happens. The chapter explained how one professor found a way to stop cheating by making his students turn in all of their notes and drafts for major papers. While this was very effective for the professor, it was also very time consuming. It then talks about the cheating scandal at the university of Minnesota where tutors would do the basketball teams work and one teacher suspected one kid of cheating but the school never looked into it. The chapter finishes by saying how students have said that they cheat because of the way athletic departments cheat in trying to get a new recruit to the school.
