Chapter 18 College Sports Megainc.
They start this chapter off by talking about CBS mega deal with the NCAA basketball tourney. But they raise a question of how can we keep these kids as amateurs when the people running all of this are becoming rich? They talk about how the NCAA stays a non-profit organization by sending lobbyists to Washington D.C. and renting office space on One DuPont Circle. A point gets brought up saying I thought football was the king of college sports? Then the chapter goes on to discuss how college football always looks for new ways to keep the sport popular and bring in even more money. They then go on to talk about how big time D-1 athletics hurts schools more than they help them. They use how teams lose money going to these huge corporately sponsored bowl games to back this statement up. They also back up this statement by talking about how small schools who make the NCAA tournament have to pay money to go play in this tournament and cost them money. They finish by talking about how teams upgrade their facilities for the sport teams to keep up with the times.
