Chapter 3 The NCAA, The Tube, And The Fans

This Chapter begins talking about how sports have become so big in the college level and how big broadcasting of these sports have become. It then goes on to talk about how coaches and ADs have really changed how scholarships work and again talks about the 20/4 rule and how the word 'voluntary has become big. Then it talks about how the NCAA made some schools in the MAC conference to build bigger stadiums or no longer be allowed to play in Division 1-A football. The chapter then goes on to talk about how big sponsorships became for these college teams in the stadiums and in football for the bowl games. But as the author states, most schools that went to bowl games lost money because of the trip. Then they go on to talk about the TV rights of NCAA tournament and how it went from just the final four being televised at little arenas, to every game being televised and the final four being played in giant stadiums. Then they go on to explain how fans show support for their team after their team came away with a big win the night before or they are sad if there team lost the night before, They finish off talking about how ESPN made the midnight practices for college basketball such a big thing called "Midnight Madness" and turned skateboarding into the "X-Games." The chapter truly finishes talking about big sports sponsors and if beer and tobacco companies should be associated with sports.
